Bangladesh is very defenseless to climate change and the country needs strong advocacy on the issue in the international arena.

British high commissioner Robert Gibson said this after his first formal meeting with foreign minister Dipu Moni on Monday.

The envoy presented his credentials to president Zillur Rahman Oct 3. He also served as a deputy high commissioner in Bangladesh from 2002 to 2005.

“We discussed whether we can work more closely on this issue to protect Bangladesh’s future,” he said.

He said they also discussed about trade and investment relations.

The UK government has increased DFID assistance to Bangladesh by double for the next years, he said adding, “My government has set up a body to ensure transparency of the taxpayers’ fund.”

When asked if Bangladesh’s role in Afghanistan was discussed, he replied in negative.
